Protests for or against any number of societal topics have become an almost daily occurrence in Canadian cities. Last night, protesters in Montreal were filmed smashing store font windows in the downtown core. More recently, media sources have been reporting on protest encampments at select Canadian universities. McGill university in Montreal has asked police for help breaking up one such encampment on it’s campus, claiming that many, if not most of the protesters were not even students at the prestigious school of higher learning. Now, a similar tent city has been set up at the University of Toronto. More such occupying protests are expected by many Canadians.
These university protests are inspired by similar university occupations south of the border in many US cities. These American protests have turned violent and have seen multiple arrests by American police forces. At one protest, a student was beaten unconscious for the crime of being Jewish. Another protest saw students being blocked from accessing classes, again simply due to being a Jew. Make no mistake, these are anti jewish protests and they are now spreading into Canadian cities.
Canada’s NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh has now endorsed these protests at Canadian universities. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Singh very publicly endorsed these protests, which many fear will turn into the same anti-jewish violent clashes we’ve seen south of the border.

This is not the first time the NDP has been accused of anti-semitic rhetoric. Many Canadians expressed disgust and concern over the party’s display of the Keffiyeh in parliament. A Palestinian scarf type garment that has become a symbol of anti-jewish sentiment. With the NDP now publicly endorsing university encampment style protests, one can only wonder how long it will be before Jewish students are beaten or denied the education they have paid for due solely to their religion.
