Even after being shuffled away from his last portfolio as Heritage Minister, Pablo Rodriguez still doesn’t take things seriously. In his new role as transport minister, Rodriguez took to twitter to describe his new job as “fun”.
In his former cabinet position, Rodriguez oversaw the disastrous Bill C-18, which saw Canadian news outlets being all but banned on numerous social media sites. Facebook parent company Meta will block all Canadian news media from it’s platforms and will soon be blocking links. Links on social media are a prime resource for any entity looking for exposure and increased traffic to their own sites. This increased traffic is highly sought after, as it leads to higher ad revenue. Considering that many news outlets in the country are desperate for funding, this move by social media giants is counter productive and could help lead to the bankruptcy of news media firms.
It was not immediately clear if Rodriguez also thought his heritage post was also “fun”, but perhaps a more serious outlook on the job assigned to him by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would be in order, especially considering the absolute bashing that Liberals are taking in the polls lately.
